Decorative Bath Rugs

Florial Rugs Introduces the new designs which meet the ASTM International standard, WK41157, Specification for Decorative Bath Rugs.

Everybody wants to feel safe as they step from a bathtub or shower. A proposed new ASTM International standard, WK41157, Specification for Decorative Bath Rugs, will provide the means to evaluate specific performance characteristics of bath mats to be used both in the home and in institutional environments.

According to Kathleen Huddy, director of quality and product compliance, MindsInSync Inc., and an ASTM member, WK41157 will cover all practical aspects of producing a quality bath mat.
“From tuft bind to rug back staining, WK41157 will help manufacturers create a quality product for the consumer,” says Huddy. “The proposed standard will be used to back up any claims a manufacturer is making to the consumer in areas such as skid resistance and colorfastness.”
Huddy notes that Decorative Bath Rugs are made from basic textiles that consumers are generally familiar with — nylon, polyester and cotton. Important basic properties for a mat that sits outside of a tub or shower are absorbency and slip resistance. In addition to such properties, the proposed standard will also provide information on a warning label to educate consumers on the proper use of Decorative Bath Rugs.

WK41157 is being developed by Subcommittee D13.63 on Home Furnishings Decorative Bath Rugs, part of ASTM International Committee D13 on Textiles. Representatives from manufacturers, retailers and consumer advocate groups are invited to participate in the development of WK41157 and other proposed D13 standards
